Winter Weather Advisory issued January 4 at 9:14PM CST until January 6 at 3:00AM CST by NWS Des Moines IA...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL OVER SOUTHERN IOWA TONIGHTTHROUGH SUNDAY EVENING....A winter storm will bring accumulating snowfall to southern Iowatonight through the day Sunday before ending Sunday evening. Thehighest snowfall amounts will be near the Missouri border insouthern Iowa. Very dry air will be moving into Iowa from north tosouth with winds from the north averaging 10 to 20 mph, with highergusts. This will cause a very sharp gradient in snowfall amountswith lower amounts in the northern part of a given county and higheramounts in the southern part of the same county, within southernIowa. Any shift in the predicted storm track will therefore havesignificant impacts on forecast snowfall amounts within southernIowa, so continue to monitor the forecast for the latest updates.Little to no snow is expected north of Highway 30. Finally, thewinds will cause at least some minor blowing and drifting snow wherethe new snow falls.* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 5inches, with a very tight gradient in snow amounts expected.
